Don’t Let It Reign
Romans 6:12 (KJV) “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.”
When you think of the word “reign,” you should immediately think of kingdom talk. That is the language given to us so we can think kingdom. It is about who or what you are going to let reign in your mortal body. All of you—spirit, soul, and body—has joined the Kingdom of God; and it’s now time to decide who is reigning in your life, your flesh or King Jesus.
Romans 6:14 tells us that sin is not to take dominion or rule and reign in your life because you are not under the law but under grace. Those under the law had no hope for their flesh because there was no recourse, no power to free them from the lusts of their flesh, but then Jesus came with grace. This is the same grace He told Paul was sufficient for you. His standing grace, or empowerment, is enough to put your flesh under.
Your flesh, or the lust of your flesh, is no longer reigning, but grace—or the power of God—is reigning in your life. If you and I are obeying the lusts of our flesh, then grace is not reigning. Sin wants to reign in us because sin always leads to death. It wants back in. Sin and the devil used to reign in our lives, but because of Jesus and His grace, they no longer reign. If sin is still reigning, we need a greater revelation of grace in our lives.
You and I do not have to obey the lusts of our flesh. The flesh has and will always have lusts, and if yielded to, will cause sin. If we sin, then we are letting sin reign again in our flesh. Sin wants to be “king” again. Sin is trying to make us obey it again.
We have to know and decide that we will not obey sin and its lusts anymore. If we will walk in the Spirit, we will not fulfill the lusts of our flesh. Instead, righteousness will rule and reign in our body.
We are free because now there is a new Kingdom and King at work in our flesh and in our lives.
You rule, God!
