NO WORRIES
1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he cares for you.
The Word of God is very clear about worry; we are not supposed to worry for any reason. There is nothing that comes to us that we should be in fear, anxiety, or worry about. Philippians 4:6 (NLT) tells us not to worry about anything. Jesus told us in the Gospels that worry couldn’t add an inch to your life. We are not supposed to be worried about food or clothes. We are told not to seek after these things that the Gentiles (heathen, ungodly) do but instead we are supposed to seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. If you are a Kingdom seeker, you are not a thing seeker. I seek God and those things seek me. What are we supposed to do if the Lord says we can’t worry?
Philippians 4:6–7 tells us that instead of worrying, we need to pray in faith. The Father knows we have need of these things, so if you will ask Him according to His will, He will hear you, and you can receive what you need from Him. When we ask in faith knowing we have the petitions we have desired of Him, then our heart can be at peace because we know the Father will get us what we need. Psalm 55:22 (Webster’s Bible Translation) says, “Cast your burden on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never suffer the righteous to be moved.” What a promise to us, the righteous ones! When we cast our burden on Him, just like our verse today says, because He loves us and cares for us, we will not be moved. We can stand our ground and receive all the promises of God that are in Christ Jesus! What else do we need to know to get rid of worry and fear?
How do I overcome worry and fear? I was a world champion worrier; and so, I had to get ahold of these truths and hold on to them. I hope you will too. I know this from 1 John 4:18, which says perfect love cast out all fear. God is love, and His perfect love, when I understand and receive it, will cast out all fear. God loved me so much that He gave me Jesus, so what else would He ever withhold from me? The answer is… nothing! I also know that the peace of God in my life will drive out all fear. Jesus said as much in John 14:27. He said He left us His very own peace, and He told us not to let our hearts be troubled. We stay in peace by keeping our minds stayed on the Lord (Isaiah 26:3), and when we do, we will have perfect peace.
The last thing I want to say is really a command from the Lord, first to Joshua and then to us. If He gives us a command, then we can do it. In Joshua 1:9, God told Joshua not to be afraid or dismayed. Jesus told us in John 14:1, don’t let your heart be troubled. We have control of our heart, not the circumstances, the devil, or anyone being used by the enemy. Always remember this: God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).
