MEEKNESS

Isaiah 29:19 The meek also shall increase their joy in the Lord, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

There are many benefits to walking in meekness. Moses did it, and he was the most trusted man on the Earth during his time. He was God’s friend, and God used him mightily. Jesus told us to come to Him, and let Him teach us about meekness, so we can have rest for our souls. There are other benefits of the fruit of meekness. This portion of scripture says that meekness will increase our joy. Joy is so important. It is interesting that meekness, which is someone who has a mild temper, is gentle and kind, and not easily provoked to anger or easily irritated would increase in joy, but it makes sense doesn’t it? If you are not angry, if you are not irritated on a regular basis, you would be more joyful, more carefree. Meekness is also someone who is submissive to the divine will of God and refuses to give in to pride. It’s someone who doesn’t complain but yields to God’s Word and plans. If we would do these things, it makes sense that we, too, would have an increase of joy.

There are other biblical benefits to meekness. According to Psalm 22:26, the meek shall eat and be satisfied. Meekness, the one who yields to the Lord, will live a satisfied life. Psalm 25:9 tells us the meek are guided in judgement. It is awesome to know that when you live in meekness, you will be able to make wise decisions. That verse goes on to say that the meek will be taught the ways of the Lord. It reminds me of what Jesus said, “Come unto Him and learn of meekness” (Matthew 11:29). The ways of the Lord are not beyond finding out. The meek get taught one on one by the Lord Himself. Talk about a teacher! Psalm 147:6 says the Lord lifts up the meek. When we walk in meekness, the Lord will lift us up out of all our troubles.

These are just a few of the benefits of walking in meekness, which makes it worth cultivating this fruit in our lives. Meekness lets us live a satisfied life, make wise choices, learn the ways of the Lord, and it will cause us to be lifted up. By walking in meekness, I am assured victory, protection, and receiving all that salvation is (Psalm 149:4, Zephaniah 2:3). Let’s not overlook this powerful fruit the Lord has given us. Let’s draw near to Jesus and learn about meekness from the expert and then, let’s walk in it and get all the benefits that meekness offers.
