Steps Ordered
Psalm 37:23 (AMPC) “The steps of a [good] man are directed and established by the Lord when He delights in his way [and He busies Himself with his every step].”
Once again, we see the Lord as the One who establishes and directs our steps. What does that mean? He has a plan, a purpose, a course, and a destiny prearranged for us. You don’t have to take His route if you don’t want to. It is not an automatic route; you have a choice. You have a free will. It is, however, the very best route for your life that you can take.
It is full of twists and turns, and there are many decisions to make along the way. The Lord gave us a free will, and it is, in some ways, a great blessing. No matter what goes on in your life, you have choices to make, and you can choose your way out of any bad situation. We are not robots. God’s plan is not automatic; nothing with God is: not salvation, not healing, not prosperity, not peace, and all the other good things God has provided for us.
We receive those things by choosing God, choosing His Word, and choosing to walk and live by faith and not by sight. It takes faith to fulfill the destiny God has for your life. It takes faith and patience to walk it out.
The last part of this verse is amazing. When our ways please the Lord, when we are endeavoring to do the will of God, be where He wants us, and do what He wants us to do, the verse says He busies Himself with our every step. Wow! God involved in every step of my life when I am on the course that He has for me! Sounds like walking through the valley of death on my way to green pastures, still waters, and a table in the very presence of my enemy!
I choose God’s course for my life, but I must choose it every day. Just do it!
