THE WORD IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR LIFE

Joshua 1:8 “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

Speaking the Word of God is very important for many reasons. One reason is that you can’t be born again without the great confession of faith. We also know, according to Jesus, that we must speak to mountains or obstacles in our lives. In this case, speaking the Word of God—rehearsing what God has said—is meant to build you up personally and give you faith.

We know from the New Testament that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. As you speak the Word of God out of your own mouth, it is one of the highest ways to receive faith and increase faith. Your mouth must be full of the Word of God. Jesus is the High Priest of your confession, and He is waiting on His Word to come out of your mouth.

There are three gates to your heart or spirit: the mouth gate, the ear gate, and the eye gate. When you look at the Word of God with your eyes, speak the Word of God with your mouth, and hear yourself speak the Word of God, your faith will increase rapidly. No one can do this for you. Your faith will not increase simply because someone lays hands on you or prays for you. You must put the Word of God in your mouth.

As you begin to do this, you will become more comfortable speaking to things that oppose the Word of God in your life. Many times, people are praying what they should be saying. Life and death are in the power of the tongue. With the Word of God coming out of your mouth, you can stay on the righteous path and off the path of the destroyer.

However, in order for the Word of God to truly work in your life, you must also do it. James tells us clearly that if we hear the Word and don’t do it, we deceive ourselves. That kind of deception is very difficult to escape. Faith comes by hearing the Word, but faith is activated by doing the Word. Without corresponding action, faith is dead.

You must hear the Word. You must speak the Word. And you must do the Word. God’s power does not fully operate until obedience follows. Always do what the written Word says, and whatever the Holy Spirit personally tells you to do—obey it. That is when the power of God comes on your words and on your actions, and that is when you will see true success.
